Total Shoulder Replacement
Total shoulder replacement is a surgical procedure where the worn-out surfaces of the shoulder are resurfaced with metal and plastic components. Over time, the cartilage that cushions the bones can wear away and cause stiffness, pain and discomfort.
This affects your ability to perform basic activities of daily living. Shoulder replacement can reduce or eliminate pain, improve strength and range of motion, and get you back to a normal life.

How Long Is the Recovery Period?
This can vary from person to person, but most people will need to use a sling for four to six weeks. Driving may be possible within six weeks, when full shoulder movement is regained. Usually there are lifting restrictions for six months. Most people will be able to go straight home from the hospital, though some patients, particularly those living alone, may need to spend a few days at a rehabilitation center or nursing home. Keep in mind that healing and recovery times can vary.
