Redding, CA, September 15, 2025 – Shasta Regional Medical Center welcomes Dr. Helene Cook to the Wound Care Center at Shasta Medical Center.
Dr. Cook is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon with specialized expertise in wound management, limb salvage, trauma, and reconstructive surgery. Her approach is grounded in providing comprehensive, patient-centered care that aims to restore mobility, promote healing, and enhance quality of life. Dr. Cook brings both advanced clinical knowledge and a deep commitment to evidence-based care.
“Access to specialized wound care is essential for improving health outcomes and quality of life—especially in rural areas, where patients often face barriers such as limited transportation, fewer specialists, and longer distances to hospitals”, stated Ronda Paris, Director of the Wound Care Center.
A well-equipped Wound Care Center plays a vital role in rural healthcare by:
1. Preventing Complications and Amputations Chronic wounds, such as diabetic ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure injuries, can lead to serious infections and even limb loss if not properly treated. Early intervention and advanced wound therapies significantly reduce these risks.
2. Keeping Care Close to Home Local access means patients don’t have to travel long distances for specialized treatment—improving consistency, convenience, and patient adherence to care plans.
3. Supporting Local Hospitals and Providers A dedicated wound care center complements primary and specialty care teams, helping manage complex cases locally and reducing hospital readmissions.
4. Enhancing Community Health and Economic Stability Healthy individuals can stay active in their work, families, and communities—helping rural areas remain vibrant and productive.
5. Improving Patient Education and Prevention Beyond treatment, wound care centers teach patients how to care for their skin, manage chronic conditions like diabetes, and prevent future wounds.
“We are proud to welcome Dr. Helene Cook to our team and look forward to the continued excellence she brings to wound healing and patient care at Shasta Medical Center”, said Sam Itani, CEO at Shasta Regional Medical Center.
