Shasta Regional Medical Center has been certified by The Joint Commission as an advanced primary stroke center, for over 10 years and was the first in the North State to receive this designation. Our dedicated Neurosciences unit is staffed by nationally certified physicians, registered nurses, and clinical staff specializing in the stroke, spinal surgery and seizure disorders.

The Stroke Center offers comprehensive treatment for stroke patients. Services range from diagnosis to caring for patients affected by stroke. Beginning with an immediate evaluation and screening by a rapid response stroke team, specialized nurses, physicians and therapist work together to provide high-quality care throughout hospitalization to discharge.

Warning Signs of a Stroke

Stroke is a medical emergency. Know these warning signs of stroke and teach them to others. Every second counts:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body Try to raise both your arms over your head at the same time. If one arm begins to fall, you may be having a stroke.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding Try to repeat a simple sentence. If you can’t, you may be having a stroke.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, blurred, seeing double or blacken vision.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
  • A sudden, severe headache or an unusual headache, which may be accompanied by a stiff neck, facial pain, pain between your eyes, vomiting or altered consciousness, sometimes indicates you’re having a stroke.

If you or someone with you has one or more of these signs, don’t delay! Call 9-1-1 Immediately! It’s very important to take immediate action.
