Redding, CA, August, 2025 – In November 2020, Shasta Regional Medical Center proudly announced the opening of its Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Clinic. This week, the TAVR team achieved a significant milestone by completing their 500th minimally invasive heart procedure. As the only hospital in the region offering this advanced procedure, the TAVR Clinic provides patients with a less invasive alternative to traditional open-heart surgery, delivering improved outcomes and quicker recovery times.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a less invasive, catheter-based procedure to replace a diseased aortic valve. This procedure shortens surgical time, hospital stay, and recovery period, which improves quality of life for patients.
“The TAVR team at Shasta Regional Medical Center has truly excelled in adopting this groundbreaking technology, achieving remarkable patient outcomes. Their dedication to mastering the technique of replacing the aortic valve through endovascular methods is evident in their work. With over 500 successful cases, this underscores the growing demand for this life-changing procedure. The team’s unwavering commitment to providing timely care for each patient has been invaluable. I’m fortunate to collaborate with such a passionate and supportive group. The trust we’ve built with the local medical community has been a key factor in the program’s success”, said Dr. Aazib Khan, Interventional Cardiologist.
“Reaching this milestone is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our entire staff. Every department—from environmental services to the operating room, the Cath Lab, and the lab—has played a critical role in the success of procedures like TAVR. We are deeply grateful for the leadership of Dr. Southard and Dr. Khan, whose vision and expertise have been instrumental in making this program a success and transforming the lives of so many in the North State. Our impact has extended beyond the Redding community, reaching patients throughout Northern California and improving their quality of life, stated CEO, Sam Itani.
