The luncheon is held annually to educate community members on heart health, and how to spot the tell-tale signs to get checked out before something major happens.
Three speakers took to the stage, including Dr. Jeffrey Southard, Dr. Richard Wright and Senator Megan Dahle.
Wright talked to the audience about heart disease, including how to spot it, and when it might be a good time to go see your doctor. “Some people look at their heart and the squeeze is normal. But the relaxation isn’t. In those people, the heart doesn’t beat the way it normally beats. So that leads to an inability to do the things you’d normally want to do. You may be fine when you rest, but when you try to exert yourself you find that you just can’t do it anymore.”
Wright says each year, women die more from heart disease and heart-related illnesses than all cancers combined.
About 550 people were in attendance for the luncheon, making this year one of the biggest yet for the event.
Boutique booths filled with crafts and artisans from local artists were on display as attendees walked around enjoying a champagne pass.
Action News Now is a proud sponsor of the Go Redding luncheon.
